Stop selling courses and start selling these

Published almost 2 years ago • 2 min read

Hey Reader,

The response last week from the ConvertKit Sponsor Network has been incredible. The team is working like crazy. We've already onboarded 15 more creators and 8 more brands.

I have a lot of DMs that look like this:

Want to hear a little inside baseball?

I've been using it as a creator for the last month or so and have already been paid out $4,302.

My newsletter is 26,000 subscribers with a 33-40% open rate. Depending on the sponsor I charge between $1,000 and $1,500 per sponsorship. After ConvertKit's cut and payment processing fees I received that $4,302 for the last month of sponsorships.

What's crazy is how little work it was for me. I approved the sponsor and sent the newsletter each week, but Armando and the rest of the ConvertKit team did everything else: sales, contracts, invoicing, reporting, etc.

And the brands are happy because they were able to buy sponsorships across a lot of newsletters with the same effort it used to take to buy just one.

It's still tough to scale a two-sided marketplace, but the initial response makes it clear we're onto something. I'll keep you posted on how it develops.

The #1 way you can help is to connect us with more brands who are spending $20k+ per month on newsletter sponsorships.

FROM THE PODCAST

Katelyn Bourgoin - Stop selling courses and start selling these

In this episode I talk to Katelyn Bourgoin. Katelyn is a creator and entrepreneur. She’s built several successful companies and agencies, and built a consultant company that she later sold.

We dive into why customers buy, and how to market and sell to them through the Jobs-to-be-Done framework. Katelyn has a wealth of marketing knowledge she shares with us today.

We talk about different business models. We get into why you should focus on selling checklists, cheat sheets, and outcomes rather than the traditional video courses. We also talk about how she grew her newsletter to 10,000 subscribers, and got to over 50,000 followers on Twitter.

WHAT I'M WATCHING

Tehran season 2 on Apple TV

If you haven't started this show yet, it's a good one. Tehran a spy thriller set in Iran, with great casting, excellent story telling, and plot twists around every corner. I just finished season 2 and loved it just as much as the first season. Check it out on Apple TV (trailer).

Have a great week,

Nathan
